IHRO reaction to Takhat Sri
Patna Sahib Hukamnama about
Prof Darshan Singh

Organisation notes that the hard hitting Hukamnama of 10th May,
2008 issued by Takhat Sri Patna Sahib declaring Professor Darshan Singh a
pucca tankhaiya, 'ostracized from the panth' is the result and
culmination of the series of edicts of Akal Takhat Sahib against his
blasphemy.
On 08th January,
2007 Akal Takhat had issued a Hukamnama against Professor Darshan Singh
warning the sangat of the false and baseless tirade started by him
against the banis of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib.

while being the Jathedar of Akal Takhat had even tied Surjit Singh Barnala
with a post and hung a guilt confessional placard from his neck. And now he
has even refused to accept the authority of the same very seat.
Tracking the pattern of
Prof. Darshan Singh's moves, it is not surprising that taking a sharp and
unexpected turn of 180 degrees he had started speaking against his own
lectures and kirtan. All his life he had been doing kirtan from
Guru Granth Sahib and Dasam Granth. But now all of a sudden he has started
using abusive and derogatory language against Dasam Bani. When the entire
panth is to assemble at Hazur Sahib for the historic centenary
celebrations of the coronation of Guru Granth Sahib as the enteral Guru by
Guru Gobind Singh, Prof. Darshan Singh has gone to the extent of openly
inciting Sikhs to shun Sach Khand Sri Hazur Sahib and Takhat Sri Patna Sahib,
the two Takhats associated with the Guru Gobind Singh ji.
IHRO further notes that
historically hukamnamas had been issued from Patna Sahib but the
supreme temporal authority of the Sikhs is Sri Akal Takhat Sahib. Even the
Constitution of Takhat Sri Patna Sahib makes it absolutely clear that in
matters of religion the decision of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib is final and
binding.
The Patna Sahib
hukamnama is a well reasoned draft which has been issued after
giving enough opportunity to Prof. Darshan Singh to explain his side of case,
if any. But it is clear that since Prof. Darshan had nothing to deny, the
charges of defiance of panthic authority and blasphemy are crystal
clear. Instead of appearing beore the takhat as a humble Sikh, his proposal
that he is willing to hold a debate with the Takhats is nothing but an
absolute contempt of the Panth and Panthic institutions.
IHRO still feels that Prof.
Darshan Singh as a Sikh has the right to present himself before the very same
authority, which he once headed to absolve himself of the two hukamnamas
issued against him by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and Takhat Sri Patna Sahib.

Earlier
on 27th November 2006 Akal Takhat Sahib had issued another edict warning the
Sikh Sangat of the mischievous elements who were speaking against the banis
of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. Prof. Darshan Singh is guilty of defying that
edict too.
Darshan Singh's proposal
that if the bani of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib is not according to Gurmat, then it
cannot be accorded the status of Gurbani is highly blasphemous and
derogatory. He even went astray when he took out a paid advertisement in an
anti-Sikh newspaper where he proposed setting up of a panel to decipher the
authorship of Jaap Sahib, Sawayie, and Chaupai Sahib. His latest stance is
nothing but a calculated move to give a serious blow to the basic foundations
of Khalsa and its rehat.
